MONDAY (10/9): Colonization Document-Based-Questions Activity. Students will learn how to read primary and secondary sources and then respond to questions using text-evidence.

WEDNESDAY (10/11): Introduction to the Atlantic Slave Trade. Students will take notes from a short Powerpoint and then read "Atlantic Slave Trade" textbook section.
THURSDAY (10/12): Middle Passage Read Like a Historian Small Group Activity. Students will read multiple perspectives of the Middle Passage and the conditions that the slaves endured. With their group, students will decide who gives the most accurate description of the Middle Passage.
FRIDAY (10/13): Journey from Africa to the Americas Photo Analysis Stations. Students will analyze pictures/photos that trace the journey for captured slaves from the interior of Africa to the slave auctions in the New World. If time, students will work on Colonization Study Guide - due MONDAY!

MONDAY (10/2): Mercantilism Powerpoint & Guided Notes. Students will read "The Game of Mercantilism" to complete questions #4-8 at the bottom of the guided notes.
TUESDAY (10/3): Conquest in the Americas focusing on European settlements in Meso and South America. Students read "Conquest in the Americas" and complete Two-Column Notes.
WEDNESDAY (10/4): Moctezuma and Cortes Read Like a Historian Stations Activity. Students will read different accounts of the meeting between Moctezuma and Cortes and determine which source was the most reliable source of information. Moctezuma and Cortes RLH Questions will be entry #21.

TUESDAY (9/26): Columbian Exchange. Students will watch a short video clip from America Before Columbus and learn about some of the items traded during the Columbian Exchange. We will then take notes from the Columbian Exchange Powerpoint.
WEDNESDAY (9/27): We will continue learning about the Columbian Exchange today adding in the economic system of mercantilism. Students will read "Columbian Exchange & Global Trade" textbook section and fill in the chart.
If you finish early, you can watch The Americas Before Columbus-- start at 53 minutes.

THURSDAY (9/28): Columbian Exchange Creative Assignment Day 1 - students will receive the assignment description and planning guide. Each student will be assigned one of the items traded during the Columbian Exchange and create either a comic strip or ad about that item's journey to the Old World or to the New World. Today's goal is for students to read their item's overview and complete the Comic Strip Planning Guide. If time, students can start their project. HOMEWORK: Study for Colonization Vocabulary QUIZ tomorrow!

FRIDAY (9/29): EARLY RELEASE DAY - COLONIZATION VOCABULARY QUIZ! (Entry #18) After quiz, the remainder of class time is to FINISH your Columbian Exchange Comic Strip. Remember to follow all requirements including the use of pen/thin marker for captions, comic strip has a title and minimum of 6 boxes, and colored with colored pencils or crayons (no markers). The Comic Strip will count as a double-minor grade! HOMEWORK: Finish Columbian Exchange project- due Monday!
