MONDAY (1/22): INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION QUIZ
After quiz, students will explore the EMPIRE Motives for Imperialism. Each letter in the acronym EMPIRE stands for one the main reasons why European countries practiced imperialism.
TUESDAY (1/23): Imperialism throughout the 20th Century Powerpoint & Guided Notes (basic ideas that we will need to know during the Imperialism & Nationalism unit)
WEDNESDAY (1/24): Introduce the competition for resources and land of Africa - who had the advantage? why? Scramble for Africa textbook section and questions.
THURSDAY (1/25)--official start to Quarter 3:
Finish the Scramble for Africa reading/notes
Start Imperialism Poem Analysis - students will read two poems presenting different perspectives of European imperialism. Rudyard Kipling's "White Man's Burden" and Hubert Harrison's "Black Man's Burden". We will discuss the different viewpoints they present arguing both for and against imperialism during the 20th century.
FRIDAY (1/26): Imperialism in Africa Political Cartoon Analysis - students will work with their group to analyze different political cartoons that show the positive & negative impact that imperialism had on native people in Africa and Asia. We will turn in the Political Cartoon Analysis for the first minor-grade of the Third Quarter.
